Reaction Steps

To a stirred solution of Intermediate 3 (0.12 g, 0.37 mmol) in ethanol (2 ml) was added NaBH4 (28 gm, 0.74 mmol). The reaction mixture was allowed to stir at RT for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted with DCM (3×). The combined DCM extracts were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), and solvent evaporated in vacuo to give the sub-titled compound as a colorless oil (104 mg) which was used as obtained in the next step. MS: ESI (positive): 276 (M+H).
