Compound 2-(1-chloro-3-methylnaphthalen-2-yl)-2-(1,1-difluoro-2-methylpropan-2-yloxy)ethanol was prepared following the procedure used to prepare 2-(1-chloro-3-methylnaphthalen-2-yl)-2-(1,1,1-trifluoro-2-methylpropan-2-yloxy)ethanol of Example 31, except that 1,1-difluoro-2-methylpropan-2-ol (10 eq) was used instead of 2-trifluoromethyl-2-propanol (25 eq). 1H-NMR: 400 MHz, (CDCl3) δ 8.27 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 1H), 7.73 (d, J=7.6 Hz, 1H), 7.57-7.49 (m, 3H), 5.85 (dd, J=9.2, 3.6 Hz, 1H), 5.61 (t, J=56.4 Hz, 1H), 3.94 (dd, J=11.6, 9.6 Hz, 1H), 3.65 (dd, J=11.6, 4.4 Hz, 1H), 2.69 (s, 3H), 2.18 (br s, 1H), 1.32 (s, 3H), 1.10 (s, 3H).
