Procedure

2-Bromobenzenesulfonyl chloride (0.559 g) was added to a solution of methyl (1aRS,7bSR)-5-amino-1,1a,2,7b-tetrahydrocyclopropa[c]chromene-4-carboxylate (Intermediate 42, 0.40 g) in DCM (12 mL) and pyridine (4 mL) and the resultant mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The mixture was evaporated to dryness and the residue was dissolved in DCM and washed with 2N HCl, dried (Na2SO4) and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness and the residue was purified by chromatography on silica, eluting with a mixture of ethyl acetate and cyclohexane with a gradient of 0-35% to give methyl (1aRS,7bSR)-5-(2-bromo-benzenesulfonylamino)-1,1a,2,7b-tetrahydrocyclopropa[c]chromene-4-carboxylate (0.612 g) as a solid.
