Manganese (IV) oxide (2 g) was added to a solution of (R)-(1-(2-benzyl-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-5-yl)piperidin-3-yl)(pyrrolidin-1-yl)methanone (200 mg, 0.51 mmol) in dioxane (30 mL). After heating at 120° C. for 48 h in a sealed tube, the mixture was filtered through a pad of Celite and washed with ethyl acetate. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo and the resulting residue was purified via preparative TLC to afford (R)-(1-(2-benzoyl-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-5-yl)piperidin-3-yl)(pyrrolidin-1-yl)methanone (80 mg). MS (ES+APCI) (M+H) 404.1; LCMS retention time 2.855 min (Method G).
