To a solution of (R)-methyl 1-(2-(2-cyclopropylpyrimidin-4-yl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-5-yl)piperidine-3-carboxylate (250 mg, 0.66 mmol) in ethanol (10 mL), was added an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (1N, 5 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The solvent was distilled off and the residue was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The aqueous layer was acidified with aqueous hydrochloric acid (10%) to pH˜2. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and dried under vacuum to afford (R)-1-(2-(2-cyclopropylpyrimidin-4-yl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-5-yl)piperidine-3-carboxylic acid (200 mg).
