In a sealed tube, a mixture of a solution of 5-(((4-methoxybenzyl)-oxy)-methyl)-N,N-dimethylfuro[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxamide (2.4 g, 7.1 mmol) in methanol (28 mL) and a solution of potassium hydroxide (0.79 g, 14 mmol) in water (7 mL) was heated at reflux for 1 h. After cooling to ambient temperature, the reaction mixture was partitioned between saturated aqueous citric acid solution and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, and concentrated to give the title compound. MS: m/z=314.2 (M+1).
