To a solution of (S)-2-tert-butoxy-2-(5-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-isopropyl-7-methylquinolin-6-yl)ethyl pivalate (77 mg, 0.156 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran/methanol (2:1, 1 mL) was added 1 M sodium hydroxide (2 mL) and the reaction was heated to 45° C. overnight. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and diluted with water, extracted with ethyl acetate and washed with brine. The organic layer was then dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated, followed by co-evaporation with acetonitrile to give a clear oil (62 mg). LCMS-ESI+ (m/z): [M+H]+ calcd for C25H31ClNO2: 412.20. found: 412.96.
