120 g (0.36 mol) of 6-fluoro-1,2,4-tribromobenzene in 120 ml of tetrahydrofuran are added dropwise to 290 ml (0.38 mol, 1.3 M solution in tetrahydrofuran) of isopropylmagnesium chloride/lithium chloride complex cooled to −70° C., and the mixture is stirred at −50° C. for 2 h. The mixture is subsequently cooled to −70° C., before 17.6 g (0.4 mol) of acetaldehyde in 40 ml of tetrahydrofuran are added dropwise. The batch is slowly warmed to −20° C. and then quenched by the addition of saturated ammonium chloride solution.
