In a 10 l flask, 812 g of crude (R)-1-acetoxy-ethylferrocene from Example 2 was admixed under argon at 25° C. while stirring with 1.0 l of 50% strength aqueous dimethylamine solution and 1.0 l of methanol, with the temperature rising to 40° C. The reaction mixture was subsequently allowed to stand for 2 days at 25° C. The mixture was then evaporated at 50° C. in a waterpump vacuum to 1.1 kg and the residue was added to 2.0 l of 20% strength sodium hydroxide solution.
