The title compound was prepared (48%, mp 167°-170° C.) in a manner analogous to the preparation of 1-[2-(2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]thien-3-yl)ethyl]-4-(3-methoxy-2-pyridinyl)-2-methylpiperazine hydrochloride (Example 6) by the reaction of 2,3-dihydro-3-benzo[b]-thienepropanol tosylate with 1-(3-methoxy-2-pyridinyl)-3-methylpiperazine.
