Acetanilide → 4(1H)-Quinazolinone
Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Acetanilide | HCID 904 | — |
| Reactant | Carbamic acid, ethyl ester | HCID 5641 | — |
| Reactant | Phosphorus oxide (P4O10) | HCID 14812 | — |
| Product | 4(1H)-Quinazolinone | HCID 135408753 | — |
Reaction Steps
From acetanilide. Acetanilide reacts with ethyl carbamate in the presence of phosphorous pentoxide to produce 4-quinazolone. For unsymmetrical 4-quinazolones this reaction produces a mixture of regioisomers, thereby complicating the isolation and lowering the yield. ##STR7##
