Procedure
To a solution of ethyl 2-oxocyclohexane carboxylate (41 g, 241 mmol) in ethanol (200 ml) was added guanidine carbonate (26.0 g, 289 mmol) under stirring at room temperature. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 1 hour and then cooled to room temperature. The precipitated crystals were filtered and washed with water, followed with methanol. The crystals were dried in vacuo to give the object compound (35.5 g, 89%).
