A suspension of 6-[2-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-vinyl]-pyridine-2-yl-amine (1.0 g, 3.8 mmol) (example 3) in CH2Cl2 (60 ml) was treated with boron tribromide (2.4 ml, 25 mmol) and stirred for 72 hr. The precipitate was filtered, dissolved in AcOEt and washed with aqueous NaHCO3 solution. The organic phase was dried (Na2SO4), concentrated and the residue was chromatographed (SiO2 with CH2Cl2/MeOH/NH4OH=140/10/1) and crystallized to provide 0.20 g (25%) of the light yellow title compound. Mp. 224-225° C. (iPr2O), MS: m/e=213 (M+H+).
