Reaction Steps
HO(CH2)2O(CH2)2OH (21.2 g), potassium hydroxide (11.2 g) and dioxane (100 ml) were charged into a four necked flask and heated to an internal temperature of 63° C. to dissolve potassium hydroxide. A solution obtained by dissolving 32.0 g of TsOCH(CH3)CH2OCH2Ph obtained in Example 2-1 in dioxane (50 ml), was dropwise added over a period of 30 minutes, and while maintaining the internal temperature within a range of from 60 to 100° C., stirring was continued for 13.5 hours. The mixture was left to cool, then added to water (200 ml) and extracted three times with dichloromethane (50 ml). The organic layer was washed with water (20 ml). It was dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and then concentrated by an evaporator to obtain a crude product (52 g). it was purified by silica gel chromatography to obtain 9.32 g of the above-identified compound.
