Reaction Steps
7.6 grams of cholesterol and 2.36 grams of succinic anhydride were dissolved in 100 ml of 1,4-dioxane in a round-bottomed flask. A reaction catalyst, 2.9 grams of 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP), was added thereto, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. The reaction mixture was introduced into an HCl solution in order to precipitate the cholesterol succinate (9.1 g; yield=95%).
