Reaction Steps

The major diastereomer ([1-(R)-Phenylethyl]-(2S,4S)-2-(trifluoromethyl)piperidin-4-yl)carbamic acid tert-butyl ester, from step (d), is dissolved in ethanol and a catalytic amount of 10% Pd/C is added. The reaction is shaken under H2 (50 psi) on a Parr hydrogenator apparatus. After 6 hrs the mixture is filtered through celite® filter medium, and the filter pad is washed with ethanol. The filtrate is concentrated under vacuum to give the title compound.
