| Product | 4-Bromo-2-ethylphenol | HCID 87877 | — |
Reaction Steps
15 g (123 mmol) of 2-ethylphenol are dissolved in 150 ml of chloroform. 59 g (123 mmol) of tetrabutylammonium tribromide are added in portions of 10 g, and the reaction medium is stirred for 20 minutes. The medium is then poured into a saturated sodium thiosulphate solution, and then the pH is adjusted to 7. The mixture is extracted with dichloromethane. After drying and concentration, the residue obtained is purified by chromatography on a silica column (eluent ethyl acetate 10/heptane 90). A yellow oil is obtained (m=24.5 g, y=99%).
