Reaction Steps

To a stirred, cooled solution of 15.0 g. of 4-bromo-3-trifluoromethylaniline is 75 ml. of dry pyridine add 6.8 g. of isobutyrylchloride and heat the resulting mixture at 70° C. for 2 hours. Allow the reaction mixture to cool to room temperature and then pour the mixture into 600 ml. of ice-water, filter and dry the precipitate which is recrystallised from 1:1 petroleum etherdichloromethane to yield 4'-bromo-3'-trifluoromethylisobutyranilide, m.p. 126.5°-128° C.
