Procedure

The methyl ester obtained according to (e) is suspended in 1 N NaOH and heated on the steam bath until a clear solution has formed. The whole is filtered and acidified to pH 3. The 4-(4'-methylphenoxy)-3-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-5-sulphamoylbenzoic acid that has precipitated is recrystallised from methanol; light yellow crystals melting at 230°-233° C. with decomposition.
