5.0 Grams of 1-methyl-3,5-diphenylpyrazole is dissolved in 30 ml. of dry benzene with heating and constant stirring. 30.4 Grams of methyl iodide is added to the mixture, and the mixture heated to reflux. After refluxing for 12 hours, the mixture is cooled and filtered. The filtrate is again refluxed and as product forms, it is separated from the mixture by filtration. The total amount of solid recovered is 1.21 grams, 15% yield, having a melting point of 167° C. to 169° C.
