Using the procedure described in Example 2 (E)-3-(5,6-dimethoxy-benzo[b]thiophene-2-yl)-2-propenenitrile was converted into (E)-N-hydroxy-3-(5,6-dimethoxy-benzo[b]thiophene-2-yl)-prop-2-ene-imidamide hydrochloride, m.p. 188°-198° C. (decomp.).
