Reaction Steps
A solution of N-(carbamoyl-thiocarbonyl-)-3,4-dimethoxy-aniline (14 g) in 12% aqueous potassium hydroxide solution (1.26 l) was added slowly to a stirred solution of potassium ferricyanide (251.5 g) in water (560 ml) cooled to 10° C. The thick, yellow precipitate formed was stirred for 30 min., collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried. Crystallisation from dichloromethane/ethanol gave 5,6-dimethoxy-benzothiazole-2-carboxamide (11.98 g); m.p. 211°-212° C.
