Reaction Steps
6.8 Parts of 1,4-diketo-3,6-di-(3'-cyanophenyl)pyrrolo-[3,4-c]-pyrrole, 6 parts of anhydrous potassium carbonate and 16 parts of methyl p-toluenesulfonate are heated at 200°-205° C. in 100 parts of dry nitrobenzene for 2 hours, with stirring. After the suspension has been cooled, the dye formed is filtered off and washed with nitrobenzene, acetone and finally with hot water. After drying, 5.5 parts of 1,4-diketo-2,5-dimethyl-3,6-di-(3'-cyanophenyl)-pyrrolo-[3,4-c]-pyrrole [formula (X)] are obtained in the form of brown-red crystals. After being finely divided, the dye gives red shades in PVC and varnishes, with good fastness to light and migration. ##STR14##
