2-[1-(Ethoxyimino)butyl]-3-hydroxy-5-(6-methylsulfonyl-2,3,4,5-tetramethylphenyl)cyclohex-2-en-1-one (57) was prepared from 2-butyryl-3-hydroxy-5-(6-methylsulfonyl-2,3,4,5-tetramethylphenyl)cyclohex-2-en-1-one and ethoxyamine hydrochloride following essentially the same procedure as that described in Example 1, part (iv). The product was characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and the spectroscopic data is reported in Table 5, Example 37.
