Procedure
Sodium azide was dissolved in water in an amount corresponding to 1.1 equivalent to 2,5-dimethoxyphenylisothiocyanate, and cooled. Thereto, 2,5-dimethoxyphenylisothiocyanate was slowly added. After the conclusion of the addition, the mixture was stirred at a room temperature for 30 minutes and then, it was refluxed for 4 hours as heat was applied thereto. At the conclusion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was cooled and neutralized to produce crystals of 1-(2,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-5-mercaptotetrazole.
