Reaction Steps
The product from Example 55 (12.6 g) was oxidized with silver oxide prepared in situ from a solution of silver nitrate (15.6 g) in H2O (22 ml) and potassium hydroxide (12.7 g) in H2O (22 ml). The reaction was done in ethanol (170 ml) with stirring at room temperature. After 1 hour, the precipitated silver salts were filtered, washed with water and concentrated to 1/2 volume. The aqueous basic layer was diluted with water extracted with hexane several times, acidified and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated, dried and evaporated to afford the desired acid in 30% yield.
