Reaction Steps
Five (5) grams of 2-phenyl thiazolidine was dissolved in 50 ml. of acetone, 3.1 g. of triethylamine was added and the mixture stirred in a room temperature water bath, while 4.4 g. of dichloroacetyl chloride was added dropwise. The mixture was allowed to stand for about 30 minutes and then poured into water, extracted with methylene chloride, separated, dried over magnesium sulfate, and the solvent stripped under vacuum. There was obtained a yield of 7.3 g. of an oil, the title compound, ND30 =1.5836.
