Procedure
A suspension of 3-[2-[1,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-2H-isoindol-2-yl]1-methylethyl]-1H-indole-5-carbonitrile (1.4 g) and pre-reduced 10% palladium on charcoal (1.4 g) in methanol (100 ml) containing concentrated sulphuric acid (0.5 ml) was hydrogenated at room temperature and pressure until hydrogen uptake ceased. The catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated to dryness to give a red oil (3.3 g) which was used without further purification.
