Reaction Steps
A mixture of anthranilic acid, (13.7 g, 0.1 mol), 3-bromo-α-isopropyl-α-methyl-2,5-dioxo-3-pyrroline-1-acetonitrile (27 g, 0.1 mol), isopropanol (200 ml) and sodium acetate (8.2 g) is stirred at room temperature 3 days and then is heated at reflux 1 hour. On cooling, and with the addition of ether, a yellow solid 31.6 g, (19.7%) is obtained, mp 262°-266° C. after crystallizing from acetic acid.
