To 0.86 g (2.7 mmol) of the 1-cyclopentyl-6,7,8-trifluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid in 10 ml of acetonitrile was added 0.40 g (2.7 mmol) of 1,8-diazobicyclo [5.4.0]undec-7-ene and 0.36 g (2.7 mmol) of 3-[(ethylamino)methyl]pyrrolidine. The mixture was refluxed for seven hours, cooled, filtered, and the solids washed with ether to give 0.84 g of 1-cyclopentyl-7-[3-[(ethylamino)methyl]-1-pyrrolidinyl]-6,8-difluoro-1,4dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid, mp 214°-217° C.
