12.0 g (38.7 mmol) of 2-bromo-2-methyl-1-(4-piperidinophenyl)-propan-1-one are dissolved in 20 ml of methanol, and 7.0 g (46.4 mmol) of methanolic 30% strength sodium methylate solution are then added dropwise at room temperature. The methanol is then distilled off under reduced pressure. The residue is taken up in toluene, and the precipitated salt is filtered off. The solution is concentrated in vacuo. The brown residue, which is a slowly crystallising liquid, is directly further reacted.
