Reaction Steps

Following General Procedure C and using N-(3,5-difluorophenylacetyl)-L-alanine (from Example B2 above) and ethyl 2-amino-2-(2-pyridyl)acetate hydrochloride (prepared as described in P. Kolar et al., J. Heterocyclic Chem., 28, 1715 (1991) and references cited therein), the title compound was prepared as a solid (mp=123-125° C.). The reaction was monitored by tlc (Rf=0.1 in 98:2 CHCl3/MeOH) and the product was purified by silica gel chromatography using 95:5 CHCl3/MeOH as the eluent, followed by recrystallization from chlorobutane.
