To an ice-cold solution of (7-nitro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-naphthalen-2-yl)-piperidin-4-ylmethyl-propyl-amine (420 mg, 1.3 mmol) and pyridine (154 μl, 1.5 mmol, 1.2 eq.) in methylene chloride (30 mL) under an inert atmosphere methanesulfonyl chloride (154 μl, 1.9 mmol, 1.5 eq) was added dropwise. The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and stir for 24 h. The reaction was quenched with water and the methylene chloride layer separated, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated to afford (1-methanesulfonyl-piperidin-4-ylmethyl)-(7-nitro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-naphthalen-2-yl)-propyl-amine as a beige solid (454 mg).
