Ethyl 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-(4-pyridyl)-6,7-dihydro-5H-pyrrolizine-1-carboxylate (example 19A, 0.15 g, 0.43 mmol) is dissolved under argon in abs. THF (4 ml) and sodium dihydrido-bis(2-methoxy-ethoxy)aluminate solution (VitrideR, 70% in toluene, 0.9 ml, 4.5 mmol) is added dropwise in 4 portions at 40° C. with exclusion of moisture at in each case an interval of 1 hour. 1 h after the last addition, starting material can no longer be detected by tlc (Al2O3— ethyl acetate/n-hexane 3:7).
