A mixture of 3-(5,6-dihydro-4H-pyrrolo[3,2,1-ij]quinolin-1-yl)-4-(1H-indol-3-yl)pyrrole-2,5-dione (0.1 g, 0.27 mmol) in 4.5 ml of dimethylformamide was treated with potassium carbonate (0.038 g, 0.27 mmol) and stirred for 1 h at rt. Methyl iodide was added (0.034 ml, 0.55 mmol) and the solution was stirred overnight at room temperature. The mixture was treated with cold water and stirred. Crystals were collected by filtration, washed with water and dried under vacuum to give 0.098 g (95%) of the title compound.
