Reaction Steps
A suspension of 1-acetyl-2,3-dihydro-5-hydroxy-2,4,7-trimethyl-1H-indole (3.3 g, 16.1 mmol), 3-chloro-2-methyl-1-propene (2.6 g, 28.7 mmol) and potassium carbonate (3.5 g, 25.3 mmol) in dimethylformamide (25 ml) was stirred for 20 hours at 80° C. under nitrogen atmosphere. The reaction mixture was combined with water, and extracted twice with ethyl acetate. The organic layers were combined, washed with water and saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (hexane:ethyl acetate=3:1) to obtain 3.8 g of the title compound.
