Reaction Steps

The product obtained in Example 43 (10 mmol) is added to an aqueous 0.5M sodium periodate solution (21 ml, 10.5 mmol) at 0° C. Stirring at 0-5° C. is carried out overnight. The solution is filtered and the filtrate is extracted with chloroform. The organic phase is dried over magnesium sulphate and is concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue is chromatographed on silica gel to yield the title compound.
