Procedure

A solution of 3.3 g of 4-(4-bromo-2-fluorobenzoyl)-1-acetylpyridine, 1.1 g of (0.013 mole) of methylhydrazine and 30 ml of n-butanol was heated under reflux for 16 hrs. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was diluted with water. The aqueous suspension was made basic with ammonium hydroxide solution and extracted with dichloromethane. The extract was washed with water, dried over anhydrous potassium carbonate and the solvent was concentrated to give 3-(1-acetyl-4-piperidinyl)-6-bromo-1H-indazole, as an oil.
