Procedure
A solution of 12.5 g (0.043 mol) of 6-chloro-3-phenyl-pyridazino[4,3-c]isoquinoline (Example 1) in 1.5 L of 2-methoxyethanol is hydrogenated at room temperature and atmospheric pressure in the presence of 2.5 g of 10% palladium on carbon and 1.8 g (0.044 mol) of magnesium oxide. About 1700 ml of hydrogen are absorbed. The mixture is filtered, the solvent evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue recrystallized from isopropanol to give 15 g (74%) of 5,6-dihydro-3-phenyl-pyridazino[4,3-c]isoquinoline.
