2,4-Dioxo-3-oxa-9-aza-bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-9-carboxylic acid benzyl ester (Compound 2, 10 g, 34.51 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (50 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The MeOH was evaporated to afford Compound 232 (10 g, 96%). Rf=0.47 (10% MeOH/CH2Cl2). The material was of sufficiently good quality to be used in the next reaction without purification.
