4-(12-Hydroxyl-dodecyloxy)-benzaldehyde (1.1 g, 3.6 mmol, see Example 2 above) was heated at reflux in acetic anhydride (15 ml) for 90 minutes. After cooling, the solution was poured into water with stirring. The title compound formed as a precipitate which was collected by filtration, washed with water and dried.
