Body Burden
At the end of a workweek 23 silkscreen printers gave a urine sample for capillary gas chromatographic analysis for 1,2-propanediol. The mean concentration was 2.52 (S.D. 2.01) mmol mol creatinine(-1) (median=1.76, n=23). The urinary excretion of 1,2-propanediol was linearly dependent on the preceding 1-methoxy-2-propanol exposure measured in the worker's breathing zone [y=0.99+0.28x, n=23, r=0.67, where y is the urinary 1,2-propanediol concentration, in mmol mol creatinine(-1) and x is the concentration, in cm3 m(-3), of 1-methoxy-2-propanol (90.2%), 1-ethoxy-2-propyl acetate (5.8%), 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate (2.1%) and 1-ethoxy-2-propanol (1.9%) in the air].
Personal air sampling for fluorides and solvents was done at 35 semiconductor fabrication facilities in the United States. Fluoride compounds were used in etching and cleaning operations, and solvents were used in photoresist and developing operations. All personal solvent and fluoride levels were less than 2 percent of current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Statistical models of the exposure determinants for the target agents found production level, as indicated by number of semiconductor wafer cassettes loaded/unloaded from the target machines or baths, was predictive of fluoride, xylene and 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate exposures. The percent of fresh air ventilation and the percent of xylene in the photoresist were also significant determinants in the statistical model predicting personal xylene exposure levels.
Environmental Fate
TERRESTRIAL FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), a measured log Koc of 0.362, corresponding to a Koc of 2.3(2) indicates that 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate is expected to have very high mobility in soil(SRC). Volatilization of 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate from moist soil surfaces is expected to be an important fate process(SRC) given an estimated Henry's Law constant of 3.4X10-6 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), based upon its vapor pressure, 3.92 mm Hg(3), and water solubility, 1.98X10+5 mg/L(2). 1-Methoxy-2-propyl acetate is expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon its vapor pressure(2). 50% Biodegradation in less than one day using sandy and sandy loam soils(4) suggests that biodegradation is an important environmental fate process in soil(SRC).
AQUATIC FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), a measured log Koc of 0.362, corresponding to a Koc of 2.3(2) indicates that 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate is not expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment(SRC). Volatilization from water surfaces is expected(3) based upon an estimated Henry's Law constant of 3.4X10-6 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), derived from its vapor pressure, 3.92 mm Hg(4), and water solubility, 1.2X10+5 mg/L(2). Using this Henry's Law constant and an estimation method(3), volatilization half-lives for a model river and model lake are 12 and 93 days, respectively(SRC). According to a classification scheme(5), an estimated BCF of 3(SRC), from its log Kow of 0.56(2) and a regression-derived equation(6), suggests the potential for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is low(SRC). 100% Biodegadation in the Zahn-Wellens test(7) indicates that biodegradation is an important environmental fate process in water(SRC).
ATMOSPHERIC FATE: According to a model of gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds in the atmosphere(1), 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate, which has a vapor pressure of 3.92 mm Hg at 25 °C(2), is expected to exist solely as a vapor in the ambient atmosphere. Vapor-phase 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate is degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals(SRC); the half-life for this reaction in air is estimated to be 32 hrs(SRC), calculated from its rate constant of 1.2X10-11 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C(SRC) that was derived using a structure estimation method(3). d(1); this corresponds to half-lives of 2.4 yrs and 88 days at pH values of 7 and 8, respectively(1). Using an atmospheric simulation chamber, no photolysis of 1-methoxy-2-propyl acetate was observed(4); therefore, the compound is not expected to be susceptible to direct photolysis by sunlight(SRC).

BeschreibungPropylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PGMEA), also known as propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, with molecular formula of C6H12O3, is a colorless hygroscopic liquid with special smell. It is a non pollution solvent with multi-functional groups. It is mainly used as the solvent of ink, paint, ink, textile dye and textile oil agent, and also as the cleaning agent in the production of LCD. Flammable, may form explosive vapor / air mixture above 42 ° C. Propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PGMEA) is an advanced solvent. Its molecule has both ether bond and carbonyl. Carbonyl forms the structure of ester and contains alkyl at the same time. In the same molecule, there are both non-polar and polar parts. The functional groups of these two parts not only restrict and repel each other, but also play their inherent roles. Therefore, it has a certain solubility for non-polar substances and polar substances.1-Methoxy-2-propyl acetate (PGMEA) is a material contains polar groups and non polar group , has good ability of dissolving and coupling, commonly used in solvent based coatings and screen printing ink. Using dipropylene glycol methyl ether and acetic acid as raw material, under the catalysis of solid acid, via esterification reaction to generated crude product and its high purity PGMEA after distillation.
Verwenden1,2-Propanediol monomethyl ether acetate is used as a solvent for paints, inks, lacquers, varnishes, cleaners and coatings. It is also used as a solvent for degreasing circuit boards and in food contact applications. Further, it is used in photoresist formulations in the semiconductor industry.
