Fire Fighting
Excerpt from ERG Guide 129 [Flammable Liquids (Water-Miscible / Noxious)]:
Use foam, powder, carbon dioxide. In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. NO direct contact with water.
First Aid Measures
Fresh air, rest.
Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then refer for medical attention.
Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention .
Accidental Release Measures
· CALL 911. Then call emergency response telephone number on shipping paper. If shipping paper not available or no answer, refer to appropriate telephone number listed on the inside back cover.
· ELIMINATE all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flames) from immediate area.
First Aid
Excerpt from ERG Guide 129 [Flammable Liquids (Water-Miscible / Noxious)]:
General First Aid:
Fire Fighting Procedures
To fight fire use dry chemical, CO2, spray, foam.
If material on fire or involved in fire: Do not extinguish fire unless flow can be stopped. Use water in flooding quantities as fog. Solid stream of water may be ineffective. Cool all affected containers with flooding quantities of water. Use "alcohol" foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide. Keep run-off water out of sewers and water sources.
Cleanup Methods
Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in dry sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer (extra personal protection: self-contained breathing apparatus). /table/
Disposal Methods
SRP: The most favorable course of action is to use an alternative chemical product with less inherent propensity for occupational exposure or environmental contamination. Recycle any unused portion of the material for its approved use or return it to the manufacturer or supplier. Ultimate disposal of the chemical must consider: the material's impact on air quality; potential migration in soil or water; effects on animal, aquatic, and plant life; and conformance with environmental and public health regulations.
Spillage Disposal
Personal protection: filter respirator for organic vapours of low boiling point adapted to the airborne concentration of the substance. Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Absorb remaining liquid in dry sand or inert absorbent. Then store and dispose of according to local regulations.
Preventive Measures
Do not breathe gas, fumes, vapor, or spray. Avoid contact with eyes.
SRP: The scientific literature for the use of contact lenses in industry is conflicting. The benefit or detrimental effects of wearing contact lenses depend not only upon the substance, but also on factors including the form of the substance, characteristics and duration of the exposure, the uses of other eye protection equipment, and the hygiene of the lenses. However, there may be individual substances whose irritating or corrosive properties are such that the wearing of contact lenses would be harmful to the eye. In those specific cases, contact lenses should not be worn. In any event, the usual eye protection equipment should be worn even when contact lenses are in place.
SRP: Local exhaust ventilation should be applied wherever there is an incidence of point source emissions or dispersion of regulated contaminants in the work area. Ventilation control of the contaminant as close to its point of generation is both the most economical and safest method to minimize personnel exposure to airborne contaminants.
SRP: Contaminated protective clothing should be segregated in such a manner so that there is no direct personal contact by personnel who handle, dispose, or clean the clothing. Quality assurance to ascertain the completeness of the cleaning procedures should be implemented before the decontaminated protective clothing is returned for reuse by the workers. Contaminated clothing should not be taken home at end of shift, but should remain at employee's place of work for cleaning.

Anwendungen
VerwendenTrimethyl borate is a useful reagent in organic synthesis. It is involved in the production of resins, waxes and paints and acts as a methylation agent. As a boron source, Trimethyl borate is used to prepare flame retardants, anti-oxidants and corrosion inhibitors. It reacts with Grignard reagents followed by hydrolysis to prepare boronic acid. It is also used as a precursor of borate esters, which finds application in the Suzuki coupling reaction. It is used as neutron detector gas in the presence of a scintillation counter; as a promoter of diborane reactions.
