7.48 g of clarithromycin (purity: 95.4%) was suspended in 70 ml of acetone, and 0.49 ml of formic acid was added thereto and refluxed for 30 minutes. The suspension was cooled to 0° C. and stirred for 2 hours. Then, the resulting crystals were filtered, washed with cold acetone and dried to give 7.42 g of clarithromycin formate (purity: 97.9%, yield: 94%).
