Versuchsvorschrift

As in Example 1, one starts out with 9 g of 3-acetyl 2.5-dimethylfuran (J. Am. Chem. Soc., 70 739 (1948)), 6 g glyoxylic acid and 6 cm3 water. Following chromatography on silica (eluent: petroleum ether-ethyl acetate (2-8), recrystallization in ethyl acetate, 1.8 g of the expected product is obtained. MP=144°-147° C.
