Other Standards Regulations and Guidelines
The No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) of 100 ppm (557 mg/m3) from the 90-day inhalation rat study was considered the point of departure for the health-based Workplace Environmental Exposure Limit (WEEL) derivation. After adjusting for duration of exposure and interindividual variability, the 8-hour Time-Weighted Average (TWA) WEEL value of 10 ppm (55 mg/m3) is fully expected to provide a significant margin of safety against potential adverse health effects in workers.
Toxicology
Toxicity Summary
Studies showed a low order of acute toxicity for MTMS. MTMS was slightly irritating to both eyes and skin in rabbits, and a weight of evidence assessment supports that MTMS is not a dermal sensitizer. In vitro and in vivo assays indicated MTMS has a low potential for genotoxicity. MTMS did not produce any changes in reproductive or developmental parameters in a rat study. In a 90-day inhalation study in rats, MTMS was associated with urinary bladder epithelial hyperplasia, calculi formation, and moderate kidney dilation with hyperplasia of the pelvic epithelium and granulomatous inflammation; however, an expert panel review concluded that changes in the bladder and kidney were adaptive responses to a physical or chemical irritant present within the urine and were not considered to represent a preneoplastic change.

Applications
DescriptionTrimethoxy (methyl) silane is an organosilicon compound. It can be used as a crosslinker in the preparation of polysiloxane polymers. It can also be used as an acid scavenge used in the formation of substituted azulenes from allenylsilanes and tropylium tetrafluoroborate. It can also be used as the precursor for synthesis of flexible silica aerogels.
UsesMethyltrimethoxysilane(MTMS) in combination with iron nitrate altered the pore structure dramatically. As the Crosslinking agent of RTV silicone rubber and glass fiber surface treatment agent and talk to agents outside of reinforced plastic laminated products in order to improve the mechanical strength, heat resistance, moisture resistance. Methyltrimethoxysilane is used as an acid scavenger, for example in the formation of substituted azulenes from allenylsilanes and tropyl-ium tetrafluoroborate.
UsesMethyltrimethoxysilane is a reagent used in they synthesis of electronic materials and organometallic compounds. Used in the coating of carbon-fiber surfaces, as well as in the synthesis of nanocomposites.
General DescriptionTrimethoxymethylsilane (MTM) is an organosilicon compound widely used as a precursor for the preparation of silica-based materials, which finds the applications in various fields. Particularly in molecular assembly, linking nano building blocks, and selective synthesis oligosiloxane compounds. It can also be utilized as a crosslinker in the synthesis of polysiloxane polymers.
