Procedure

Ethyl 2-[4-(3-bromophenoxy)phenyl]-1-cyclohexyl-benzimidazole-5-carboxylate (1.0 g) obtained in Example 1 was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (10 ml) and ethyl alcohol (10 ml), and 4N sodium hydroxide (10 ml) was added. The mixture was refluxed under heating for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and water was added to the residue. The mixture was acidified with 6N hydrochloric acid and the precipitated crystals were collected by filtration to give the title compound (0.9 g, yield 96%).
