Procedure
To a solution of (2-methyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl)-acetic acid methyl ester (0.8 g, 3.92 mmol) in DMF (3 mL) is added BEMP (1.81 mL, 6.27 mmol). After 1 hour, the reaction mixture is cooled to 0° C. and a solution of 3,4-difluoro-benzenesulfonyl chloride (0.83 mL, 6.27 mmol) in DMF (3 mL) is added. The reaction mixture is allowed to warm to room temperature, stirred at room temperature overnight, then concentrated under reduced pressure to a minimum volume. The residue is loaded on a pre-packed Isolute™ silica column and eluted using a gradient eluent from 100% iso-hexane to 30% EtOAc in iso-hexane to afford [1-(3,4-difluoro-benzenesulfonyl)-2-methyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl]-acetic acid methyl ester; MH+=381.
