Under reduced pressure, the solvent was evaporated, and the residue was dissolved in water. The solution was washed with ethyl acetate, and to the aqueous layer was added sodium hydrogen carbonate solution to make the solution alkaline. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, dried with magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in ethanol, and to the solution was added 1N hydrochloric acid (10 ml). The mixture was concentrated, and precipitated crystals were recrystallized from ethanol to give 7-(2-fluoro-5-methylphenyl)-5-guanidinoimino-4-methyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline hydrochloride (Compound 163) (1.4 g) as colorless crystals.
