Procedure

A mixture of 140 parts of 1-acetyl-N-(2-benzothiazolyl)-4-piperidinemethanamine and 1500 parts of a hydrobromic acid solution 24% in water was stirred and refluxed for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was evaporated and the residue was suspended in boiling ethanol. After cooling, the product was filtered off and dried, yielding 122 parts (79%) of N-(4-piperidinylmethyl)-2-benzothiazolamine dihydrobromide.
